Yellowstone here we come!

Today, Monday we started our journey up to Yellowstone. we set out from Joe's house and arrived at BYU to get our ID badges and pick up the American students. The photos below show us getting ready to board the 5 vans and stow our luggage. Joe asked us to mix up our group and travel with someone's we didn't know so we could get to mix with each other and find our who they were. It was a little unsettling for some of us, but by the end of the day we had bonded with our new van friends.
We had a 5 hour journey up through northern Utah and into Idaho. The landscape changed from dry mountain scenery to flat farm lands and then again into forested mountains. on the way we got our lunches in iconic American food chains. Joe also put us into our accommodation groups and gave us a rota for cooking and we shopped for our provisions in Walmart in Rexburg, Idaho.

We arrived in Island Park at 6pm and were amazed at the size of the cabins, more like huge holiday homes! We got stuck in to cooking straight away and the we got together to do our group presentations to introduce ourselves. It was a really good experience for our students they excelled themselves in explaining their art practice and their experience of the 'wild'. It was a good humoured evening of conversation and ideas and the odd sing-a-long. the main fear has shifted from bears and strangers to the potential horror of public dancing as Joe announced he has organised a square dance for Saturday night!
