This is what the project is about:

Western Wilds

On June 14th 2014, twelve students and staff from Wirral Met are embarking on two week adventure to make artists’ books responding to the wilderness of Yellowstone Park with students and staff from Brigham Young University, Utah.

This project is about our relationship to the ‘wild’ and the personal, historical and cultural values which we place on the protection of, and access to, wilderness sites.

Its also about bringing together students and staff from both institutions to share educational practice, specialist fine art skills - including printmaking and digital technologies, conceptual approaches and peer group support in the production of artists’ books.

The project also involves an interdisciplinary element as we will be working with students from BYU's Music and Dance departments. We think this is going to be really interesting as we are prompted to think of new ways to explore ideas. It means that the project will include film and sound works and we have made plans to investigate these media too.

We are entering many unknown territories, we hope you will join us on our journey of discovery!
